"It is possible to educate children in the pleasures of food: and that doing so will set the children up for a lifetime of healthy eating. Feeding is learning.” - Bee Wilson
Today's Week of the Young Child (WOYC) theme is "Tasty Tuesday," focusing on the importance of food and nutrition education in a child's development. Cooking with children is a great way to build math and literacy skills. It also serves as an introduction to healthy eating and encourages them to try new foods.

Since eating behaviors and food preferences established in early childhood can last into adulthood, creating opportunities for children to learn about nutritional value and different foods is the first step toward a happy, healthy relationship with eating. Making meals and snacks together gives children a sense of accomplishment and encourages them to be adventurous eaters.
Tips for Developing Healthy Habits:
Children learn about food through direct sensory contact: tasting, feeling, seeing, and smelling. It is vital to help them develop positive habits early. Here are some suggestions: Keep snacks simple: Opt for whole foods like fruit, nuts, or fresh vegetables. Eat the rainbow! Incorporate a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables into meals. Involve kids in the kitchen: Let them participate in cooking and meal preparation. Encourage new tastes: Model trying new foods yourself! Limit sugary drinks. Don't rush meals: Use this time for family conversation. Avoid using food as a reward.
