The first five years of a child’s life are the most important for healthy development and long-term well-being. The experiences and relationships formed during this period of rapid brain development build a foundation for future learning and success.

Start Early The annual Week of the Young Child (WOYC), established by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in 1971, is celebrated from April 11th through the 17th. This week highlights the importance of young children, their families, and the vital role of early childhood programs and staff.
Why Early Childhood Matters The early years are the bedrock of future success in school and life. Children flourish in supportive environments with positive relationships and through hands-on, interest-based activities. High-quality early childhood programs provide significant, long-term benefits, including: Reduced chance of repeating a grade in school, Increased likelihood of graduating high school, Higher earnings later in the workforce, and Improved overall health.
